Rory brings a comprehensive knowledge of the property and construction industry to the role of Director, and enjoys the challenge of identifying and developing new services to meet market demand in the South Island and Wellington Regions.
Based in Christchurch, Rory monitors commercial activity, workflow delivery and staff development, meeting the needs of clients through the delivery of Prendos’ multi-disciplinary approach. He has established a reputation for understanding complex property issues, particularly in the aftermath of the Canterbury and Kaikoura earthquakes.
Originally from Ireland, Rory spent six years in London with a prominent European property consultancy where he acquired and consolidated a broad range of commercially orientated building surveying skills, before setting up and running his own property consultancy in Ireland for nine years.
Practising as a chartered building surveyor in three different countries has given Rory a unique property consultancy skillset. He applies this experience when managing teams of quantity surveyors, structural engineers, building surveyors and design consultants in the day-to-day delivery of advice to residential and commercial clients – including the Ministry of Education, city councils, insurance companies, loss adjustors and brokers. He also works closely with Prendos MD Sean Marshall to manage commercial property clients.
The majority of Rory’s time is spent assisting with insurance claim settlements and as project manager and engineer on weathertightness/earthquake repair projects, where he acts as client liaison – focusing on delivery in line with client expectations. Rory also works on technical due diligence and lease reinstatement for those acquiring commercial property, and manages stock condition projects – including damage assessments on 125 residential units for Lincoln University.
Through his insurance investigation he works closely with legal advisors and acts as expert witness in mediations and in the High Court, recently in judicial settlement conferences. He is currently President of the New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors.
