Alan has over 25 years’ experience in the valuation industry, supplemented by his experience as a quantity surveyor. He originally obtained a Higher National Diploma in Building Surveying (QS) in 1987, and spent several years working for the Public Works Department in South Africa. There he was responsible for the Northern Natal Region’s government buildings, ranging from army bases to magistrates courts, and was involved in building specifications and bills of quantity for renovations and new builds. This gave him a hands-on appreciation of quality control and on-site construction methods.
Alan then spent several years working for two of the top five banks in South Africa, the Standard Bank and First National Bank, as a senior valuer. He undertook valuations and new build quality control, inspecting and valuing a range of residential, rural/lifestyle and commercial properties. Alan then took this knowledge and formed his own valuations company which he ran between 2000-2002.
In 2002 Alan immigrated to New Zealand and joined the team at Prendos. Although primarily a residential valuer, he is involved in all types of property valuations across the board, whether completing them himself or overseeing valuations for quality and content, providing advice and guidance.
