With the recent addition of experienced quantity surveyor Linda Lodetti to the Central North Island team, Prendos have further expanded their service offerings in this fast growing region.
Originally from South Africa, Linda has 35 years’ experience in the quantity surveying field. She has worked on many major projects across New Zealand, South Africa and the UK, and Central North Island Manager Dirk Stahlhut says she brings a wide range of complementary skills to the already solid Bay of Plenty team.
“Linda’s skills range from elemental cost estimating and tender reporting to financial reporting and technical advisory. She’s had significant experience in sustainable solutions and is one of New Zealand’s leading voices in the role, benefits and use of engineered timber. We’re really lucky to have her on board and we’re already seeing the value her knowledge is delivering to our clients.”
Quantity surveying is a field that’s continuing to grow in New Zealand, as people realise the importance of understanding and managing cost when undertaking a construction project.
“Whether you’re planning a commercial development or thinking of renovating, extending or building your dream home, it’s likely you’ll find yourself stuck when it comes to understanding total cost. A quantity surveyor can help you understand whether the value you get out of your project will exceed the cost to undertake it – so it’s a logical place to start.”
Dirk says budget uncertainty at the planning stage of a building project is very common. Rates per square metre give only a rough indication of cost, and there are many other aspects to consider – from land, location, geology and complex design factors to the potential added costs of the consent process, specialist engineer reviews and site investigations.
“A quantity surveyor can work with you to plan a robust budget, manage costs, control risks and ensure you get the very best return on your investment over the long term. They understand commercial and residential property and the land it’s located on. They’re trained to look at a project pragmatically and holistically, so you get an accurate estimate of cost based on proven knowledge and experience.”
“What makes Prendos unique is that we’re a full service property consultancy – so we add value by delivering an end-to-end solution. Our quantity surveyors are experts at what they do, and draw on the skills of the wider team to ensure the advice they provide is thorough, realistic and covers all potential areas of expenditure across a property’s lifecycle. It helps ensure you’re getting the very best out of your investment.”
Both Linda and Dirk are also leading timber specialists in their field, so they offer a one-stop-shop when it comes to advice on building material choices and cost. This is essential when planning projects to meet Rotorua Lakes Council’s Timber First Policy, or when dealing with the challenges of meeting sustainability goals for the future.
