Case Study:  Wellington Free Ambulance


The Job.

Prendos undertook condition surveys on a number of ambulance stations for Wellington Free Ambulance, in order to identify urgent and immediate maintenance works to inform planning for the coming year. We also provided Quantity Surveying services to assist with budget planning. 


In total, we completed inspections on four ambulance stations and developed maintenance plans for each of these buildings. This included the main head office building, two modern ambulance stations and an ambulance post in a converted residential building. The range and variation of the buildings presented a number of challenges to ensure reporting was consistent with the client’s requirements.


Our Solution.

We took time to identify client expectations around service standards and performance requirements. Surveys were completed to assess the general physical condition of the buildings and deferred maintenance, with a focus on weather-tightness and other items that could impact Wellington Free Ambulance's ability to operate from the buildings.


As part of the process we reported on the general condition of mechanical and electrical services, and provided a detailed review of information provided by other consultants - including the seismic strength and rating of the buildings, fire safety and asbestos management. 


The Outcome.

Since this job, Prendos has worked alongside Wellington Free Ambulance to assess a number of risk items and further investigate several defects. This includes CCTV surveys of underground drainage, asbestos surveys on a number of properties and further detailed investigation on roof leaks.
